Welcome to the home page of the field recordist and sound designer Pete Smith.
Pete originally studied music and philosophy at the University of Glasgow and has masters degrees in Electroacoustic Composition (MMus) from the University of Glasgow and Sound Design (MSc) from the University of Edinburgh.
Whilst studying at the University of Glasgow he received various awards including the Landfine Bursary, the Coulter Prize and the Janetta Gould bursary. He received a distinction for his final project during his MSc and was awarded a full AHRC scholarship to fund his MMus and was also recently awarded the ‘silver fox’ award by WSRS for one of his wildlife recordings.
Pete has worked on all kinds of things in the past from award winning feature length documentaries to animations and radio shows. Clients he has worked for include Channel 4, BBC 3, BBC Alba, STV, STV Creative, RBS, First Direct, Visit Scotland, Hopscotch Films, Ancnoc Whisky, Glengoyne distillery, Lidl supermarket and Virgin Media.
As a composer he has performed work at various events including the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC) and Sound Thought in Glasgow. He is currently based in Edinburgh.
